First Impressions and Welcome Party

22.10.2013 00:00
We had to get up really early in the morning at 5 am. We got a wake-up call which was really loud and annoying...
We did not have breakfast because we had to get up so early. :(
And before I forget to tell you, it was Simon`s birthday!!!!! :D
We had to squeeze in a really small shuttle bus. And we all sat on each other. *-*
Then at the airport, we had to go through a security :o But everything was ok, we only had a few drugs (little joke ;) )
And then we watched a wonderful sunrise from the airport (see picture below).
The flight was short but I took a great video and cool photos. It was beautiful to see the Chicago skylines from the sky. :)))
AND THEN we saw our host families. :) OMG they all looked so nice and lovely!!! (I have a great host family. They are so good to me and I really like them! <3)
They picked us up and we got our luggage!!! Then our ways separated, except for Jan and Nick who are with the same host family.
My family and I drove to Subway and had lunch. I was really happy to get food because I was so hungry :DDD
Then I saw my home for the next 3 weeks and I love it! The dog is so cool and sweet. <3 (The cars my host family has are soooooooooo... big)
I gave my gifts to my host sister and she freaked out because I brought a lot of German candy with me (She loves Maoam :D )
Then we visited a lot of shops like Yankee Candle (they have candles which really smell like bacon or footballs or grass, I will show you some pictures below :D) and American Eagle, Charlotte Rousse, Barnes & Noble and Dick's Sporting Goods!!! The shops are much bigger than our shops! :DD

We drove home after the shopping and talked a lot to each other. I got to know Savannah and her family really well and they are a nice family. At 6:20pm we had to be at the welcome party for the Germans. There we ate hot dogs and they even had vegetarian hot dogs for me and Salena (the host student of Julia).
On the itinary we had got before, we saw that we will do something called a hay ride and most of us couldn`t imagine what that should be. But after the dinner we knew: You call it a hay ride when you sit in a wagon which is full of hay and are connected to a tractor. It was really funny (see next picture of me and my host sister), and we threw hay on each other so at the end everybody and everything was full of hay, and I still find hay in my pants and jacket.

When we were back at the barn we made something called S`mores (see next picture). S`mores are made of a grilled marshmallow and chocolate between two crackers (see picture below). It tasted so good and as if it had a thousand calories!!!!

I talked a lot to my friends from Germany who are in America too, and they told me about their host families and how they live and what they did all day.

We drove home after that and I was so tired I fell asleep immediately.
